This movie is an old Bollywood movie I had seen when I was in school. It could be categorized as a Disney movie with Indian songs Some adults might find this movie childish but the kids might like it. Besides the four Elephants, the movie stars popular actors of the 1970s and 1980s Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja. [ The word for Elephant is 'Hathi' , pronounced 'Ha + th (as in thigh) + ee'. The Hindi title for this movie is 'Hathi Mere Sathi'. ] The title means 'Elephants Are My Partners'.
The hero grows up with elephants and loves them like his family. The elephants reciprocate and listen to his commands. The problem is that one elephant Ramu wins a race and the rich competitor wants to own him but the hero Rajesh declines the offer. The ruthless villain (K.N. Singh) vows to kill Ramu !. Rajesh gets married to the heroine Tanuja and has a child. Tanuja is scared of the elephants. Once as the maid ignores the child , the boy slips into a lake and was drowning when the elephant Ramu rescues it from the lake. The maid lies that Ramu was trying to kill the child and escapes. People, including the child's mother believe the maid and asks Rajesh to remove Ramu. A little while later Ramu saves the child from being bitten by a cobra by forcing his way into the house!! You see Ramu is wiser than humans but meets his end by getting shot.
There are some enjoyable songs and one sad song at the end...'May you be happy in the other world because this world has only hatred' !!
