The Exorcist + The Blue Velvet...!

It is hard to understand some Hollywood movies when you are a non-Christian and not raised in the USA.

For me, movies in this category include 'The Blue Velvet' , 'The Exorcist' and 'Silence Of The Lambs'. I had watched these movies years, perhaps decades, ago but was only able to understand these in hiccups and so decided to watch these again....

'The Blue Velvet' speaks of sexual and sadistic abuse of a pretty lady in a small town. However, the director creates a very romantic and lilting story around these events which includes the title song 'Blue Velvet'. Two young people decide to investigate the cause of a possible murder when they find a human ear in a shrub. It is during this investigation that they spy upon the sadistic abuse mentioned above and try to help the lady. There seems to be an affair between the lady and the young man who manages to rescue her in the end after shooting the villains !! [The villain in this movie is of a special kind as well.] Unfortunately, stories like these are in the real news sometimes. This movie may have started a trend because one finds TV shows mimicking the story of this movie (without the romantic angle) even today!!

In 'The Exorcist' , a growing very polite teenage girl requests her mother to buy a horse for her because she likes the horse's 'color and beautiful teeth' . It is clear that the mother and daughter have very friendly  and open relationship. Soon the daughter hears the sound of a horse's neighing, in short spurts, coming from the attic above. Then her bed starts shaking, and tosses her violently, as if she was on a horse!! Then begins the assault on the young girl by the 'demons' that take over her body !! The language in this part of the movie is extremely shocking' because  it comes from the mouth of a young girl .

[Coincidentally, I have spoken to a woman, over the phone, in the recent past whose voice has a very strong resemblance to the main demon in that girl ]. So is there more to the movie than meets the eye ? The defiling of  Virgin Mary's statue in the church with what appears like dark horse parts and the repeated aggressive sexual speech and behavior of the demon/s seems to imply their extreme sexual frustration!!

The Devil, it appears from the prologue in the movie, originates from Northern Iraq and is discovered at an excavation site. The anthropologist, who later becomes an exorcist, must have imported the devil all the way to USA !!
