[There are some scenes in the trailer that are missing in the movie!!]
A plane takes off from Dubai to Cochin in India, a mere three hour flight. That gave the producers of the movie 'RUNWAY 34' to make a three hour long movie...almost! Hollywood has been making movies about airplane disasters for years, but this is a first Bollywood movie about a near disaster. It is not boring though.
The main villain in this movie is the monsoon weather and the lesser villains are an experienced pilot's apparent obstinacy and the lax behavior of some airport staff. They have not seen many disasters, you see. I only recognized Ajay Devgan who plays the role of the pilot and Amitabh Bachchan who appears in the second half as the interrogator. The other actors seem to be quite new.
However, it is sad to see a pilot being grilled so mercilessly in spite of just having saved the lives of all the passengers as happens towards the end of the movie. The pilot had to make quick decisions under lot of stress; the limiting factors were limited fuel, low visibility due to the thunderstorm and the growing impatience of some rude passengers. There is a reason the pilot chose runway 34 for landing....
