TRADING PLACES - > The $80K Pauper And The Booted Prince !

I had first watched this movie on VHS almost 30 years ago when the movies had at least hint of a story instead of just special effects and fancy guns.

Two shrewd old men  have become rich by selling bushels of oranges in the stock market. Their firm is called Duke And Duke. They have a properly raised and somewhat pompous son-in-law-to-be who works in their firm (Dan Akroyd) as Director of Commodities . They have nothing else to do so they decide to place a bet. The 'game' is inspired from the old mischievous question that sometimes arises in the heads of rich people; can they turn a very poor out of luck hobo into a sophisticated gentleman, while at the same time getting rid of the pompous son-in-law? Being ethically challenged, the two 'frame' their Director of Commodities of stealing something and throw him out on the street.

They pickup a 'black' Eddie Murphy from the street and give him a mansion, a butler and $80,000 stipend!! There is lot of comedy after that as Eddie slowly learns to adjust to his new life. Meanwhile, pitiful Dan Akroyd's character sleeps on the street and almost looses his sanity because he has lost everything, including his girlfriend.

Towards the end, Eddie and Dan realize that they were just being used as puppets by the two old owners of Duke and Duke. The two then conspire and try to defeat the owners at their own game by switching the  market report on oranges thus causing big losses to the two old owners....
