OUTSOURCED - Gottadowhatonehasgottado bhaisahib !

Video Source: Amazon Prime

Outsourcing customer service jobs to India is old news. But how many people know the reality of life in India. This movie is has the right mix of  the facts and humor to educate the uninitiated about the middle class India and the poor India just across the wall from it !!

Compare the well proportioned ladies jogging on the well designed sidewalk on a Seattle street and the crowded street lined with poor people and crisscrossing of auto rickshaws amidst a herd of cows blocking the unpaved road in a small town near Mumbai !! But these are the facts that make the logistics much cheaper in India specially for a small operation like the one shown in this movie.

Synopsis

A company selling knick knacks to Americans decides to shift its order fulfillment to India and sends its young manager to a small town near Mumbai at short notice. It is a game of number crunching and cost savings so human factors take the back seat. Our hero (Josh Hamilton) faces many challenges before reaching the new cement structure that will be his workplace. The cows, the loosely hanging electrical wires everywhere, the chai glasses, the colorful holi festival, the crowded trains, the dirty pool, the temples, the image of Goddess Kali are all real. The most disturbing and unreal thing is the romance between our American hero and his Indian assistant. Our hero seems confused by the secrecy essential to the act of kissing between the two because the strict Indian parents do not like intimacy before marriage. Most Indian marriages are arranged, you see, and many last a lifetime. So our heroine here seems rather modern because she chooses to have an affair with this American guy a few months before her marriage to her Indian husband.
In the end, the bosses decide to shift the operation to China from India. The flooding of their office and shifting of the entire workplace to the open terrace above in haste perhaps contributed to this decision. But the entire experience has not been a waste for our hero, he has matured and become more humble.

Perhaps if his employer had rented a luxury suite in a modern Mumbai high rise the outsourcing to India for this company might have worked but their costs would have jumped up significantly.
